Discovering Tranquility: A Trip to Busay Falls, Camotes

If you’re craving a peaceful escape deep within nature’s embrace, Busay Falls in the heart of Camotes Islands, Cebu, is a hidden gem worth exploring. Tucked away in the lush greenery of Tudela, Poro Island, this small but charming waterfall offers the perfect side trip for nature lovers, backpackers, and anyone who just wants a break from the usual beach scenes.

The Journey In

Getting to Busay Falls is an adventure in itself. From the main road, it’s a short drive through local villages and coconut-lined paths before reaching the jump-off point. A quick 5 to 10-minute trek through a shady trail brings you to the falls — and trust me, the sound of cascading water getting louder with every step builds up the excitement.

What to Expect

Busay Falls isn’t towering or grand like other famous waterfalls in Cebu, but that’s exactly its charm. It stands at about 10 feet high, with cool, clear waters flowing into a shallow basin — perfect for a refreshing dip. The area is surrounded by dense foliage, making it a tranquil little hideaway where you can relax, picnic, and just enjoy the sound of nature.

You’ll often find locals taking a break here, especially during weekends. There are a few native huts (cottages) around where you can rest or have lunch. Entrance fees are minimal — usually around ₱10-20 — just enough to help with the upkeep of the place.

Insider Tips

  • Bring drinking water and snacks. There’s no commercial area nearby, so it’s best to come prepared.
  • Wear proper footwear. The trail can get a bit muddy, especially after rain.
  • Travel early. Mornings are quiet, and you might even get the whole place to yourself.
  • Combine it with other stops. Busay Falls is near other attractions in Poro and Tudela, like Lake Danao, Bukilat Cave, and the scenic cliffs of Panganuron Falls.
